Funeral services for Mr James Wesley Harris will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 1200 Noon at the Ball Park Road Recreational Center, 436 Ball Park Rd, Lexington, SC. Final viewing and family visitation will be from 11am to 12 noon.
Committal services will be held at Fairmount Cemetery, Newark New Jersey on Saturday, June 16.
James Wesley Harris was born on July 14th, 1956 to Lula Harris and the late James Harris. He departed this Earthly life on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 in Lexington South Carolina.
James, better known to his family and friends as Jimmy and to some as Jake. He was a native of Newark, New Jersey and was educated in the Newark Public School System. He graduated from West Side High School in Newark, New Jersey with his class of 1974. He then went on to enrol in Essex County Community College. On June 16th, 1977 he listed into the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk Virginia. He felt blessed to have had the opportunity to travel all over the world mainly overseas. He was proud to say that he served our country for eleven years and was then honored with an honorable discharge.
James then relocated to Syracuse New York so that he could extend his education by enrolling in Syracuse University. He bragged a lot about one of his classmates and friend, Carmelo Anthony which later on became a professional basketball player. After that tenure, he decided to relocate to Lexington South Carolina. With his warm personality and a great sense of humor he met the love of his life, his companion Angela Smith. James had a loving heart and was eager to lend a helping hand. He had a passion for fishing, gardening, cooking and sports. He had a loving heart for everyone and is going to be greatly missed.
James leaves to cherish his memory: his mother Lula Harris, stepfather Willie Howard two Brothers William and Carl Harris, one sister Carolyn Glover, two brother-in-law Steve Glover Jr. and Jason Holman one Uncle Robert Harris Sr., one nephew Adriel Glover, one stepson Christopher Smith, His companion Angela Smith. And a host of relatives, cousins, and friends.
He preceded in death: his father James Harris and nephew Andre' Harris-Glover.
